Stained glass or leaded lights are a spectacular feature in many properties including churches, listed buildings, period properties, modern houses and commercial buildings. They offer a dazzling focal point and can be commissioned completely to your specifications. At some point your stained glass or leaded lights may require restoration or repairs to ensure that they remain in stunning condition. Types of Damage to Stained Glass or Leaded Lights

Stained-glass windows and leaded lights can be vulnerable to accidental damage, aging or environmental deterioration. Rainfall, wind and pollution can cause structural and chemical deterioration of the glass and the leading and condensation can contribute to mould and loss of paint or other applied decoration to the interior.

On-Site Repairs

It is not always necessary to remove the window or the frames of leaded lights completely. In some cases, leaded lights or stained glass can be repaired on site with minimal disruption. If you have damaged stained glass or leaded lights, we will need to assess the condition and make our recommendations. If the panel has major damage the chances are, we will need to remove it completely, however minor damage can often be fixed in-situ including:

Repairing leaded lights or stained glass on site often depends on the condition of the original lead cames. Where possible we retain as much of the original material as we can, this is a usual requirement for leaded light repairs in listed buildings. Broken glass panes will be removed, matched with glass from our huge stock of out-of-production patterns, or replaced with new glass.

Damage Caused by Heavy Doors

External doors tend to open inwards for security reasons, the door often opens against a wall. Over the years the wear and tear of the door being opened and closed, banged, slammed, shoved, kicked, exposure to weathering etc can cause damage to the stained glass window. It is a common problem and one that we can certainly help with.
