What are lead cames?

Lead cames are slender, grooved bars of milled lead used to hold panes together in stained glass windows or leaded lights.

Strips of lead stuck onto larger window panes is the modern version to emulate this aesthetic but does not give the multi-faceted light reflecting effect which helps to indicate authenticity in the leaded windows of period buildings.

To make the cames extruded lead is milled to specific dimensions as either “U” or “H” shaped strips. These strips can then be cut and formed to hold the shape of the glass.
